Frisky Dolphins Kindergarten

Our school was founded in 2009. Our programmes are synchronized with the Hungarian curriculum and Hungarian academic skills. The children learn English as a second language .There are 10 teachers employed in our school and in general there are two native speakers and the other teachers are English speakers as well.
The subjects we teach are science, math, PE, arts, crafts, drama and music.
Our schools motivation to join this project is to open our minds and to learn about different views from teachers from other countries. We take teaching about saving our planet and environment very seriously from a young age. Ágota Uzsoki will be the leader of the project and Berta Orsi and Leeanne Burne will be the vice leaders of the project. Bea Simon and Dori Zoldhegyi will also be involved in this project and will be able to continue in the case of anything untoward happening. We have been working on this project yearly and we have one week a year where we focus entirely on this theme and do many activities to contribute to the health of our environment.
Our school is situated in a green area on the outskirts of the City. There are forests and a lake surrounding our school. It is becoming more built up over the years and pollution has started to become evident. At times we get impacted by the smog from the City and have to take precautions when going outdoors. This situation has inspired us to work really hard on this project. We focus mainly on our local environment and spend time cleaning the area around our lake and forest. We plant new trees in our garden and clean all the litter around the buildings and playground as well as beautifying the area by planting flowers. We recycle throughout the year within each group aged from 3-6 years old. We repurpose recyclable materials such as toilet rolls, plastic cartons, cardboard boxes, plastic and glass bottles and fabrics. The children create new useful objects from them as well as using them for the arts and crafts activities. We educate our children on the importance of saving water and teach them how we can minimize the amount we waste. We use only bio degradable products for the cleaning of our school. We are planning on getting a composter for the food waste this year.
We take care of birds during the winter by providing them with food and water and the children have learned a lot about birds from this project. In the future we would like to start a little vegetable garden to provide us with fresh produce. Every year we have a summer camp for 8 weeks and this week we have included saving our environment as a topic for a week. We will teach how to recycle correctly and be creative with recycling.
At the end of the week there will be an exhibition of all the things we create. We are also asking the parents to donate any unwanted clothing and we will redistribute them to the appropriate institutions where they will be needed.
